Acrylic on canvas, 20" x 32"
I wanted to create a feeling of warmth and nostalgia with this painting, to transport the viewer back to cherished childhood memories. The girls in the foreground are inspired by my childhood memories, running carefree and joyfully through the cornfields with my sisters. I’ve used rich, warm tones of yellow, orange and brown to depict the golden ripe wheat, evoking a feeling of a sunny summer’s day.

This acrylic painting was inspired by the beautiful gaillardia flowers in our garden. It's common name 'blanket flowers' as the name suggests have become abundant in our garden and have an incredibly long flowering season. I love their burst of bright vibrant colours, which I wanted to capture in this painting. It's always eventful painting so close to these flowers as they're a hive of activity for the bees!

In this close-up painting of wheat, I have brought the intricate details into sharp relief. The golden brown tones of the wheat are rendered with delicate brushstrokes that give the painting a sense of quiet serenity. The composition is simple but striking, with a focus on the textured surface and form. The brushstrokes are precise and controlled, emphasizing the beauty of the natural world in a meditative way.

This is a close-up realistic depiction of a gaillardia flower. These flowers are abundance in our garden in late summer and it’s impossible to view them without watching the bees busily working away. I’m inspired to paint these flowers regularly with their magnificent bursts of red and yellow colours. I used a deep tonal background with subtle hints of foliage to create a striking contrast between the flower and the background. I’ve used a loose yet realistic style to give the piece a sense of spontaneity and energy.

In this close-up painting of the wheat, I have used a more abstract style, with bold and expressive brushstrokes that convey the dynamism and energy of the natural world. The wheat is rendered in shades of gold, orange and brown, with an individual kernel standing out in sharp relief. I get so much inspiration from the beautiful fields of corn around me.
