Bio

From an early age I have had a love for art and crafts and being creative. I studied art at SETU, Waterford. At college I explored contemporary art through mixed media, painting and sculpture.
Painting is my favourite way of expressing myself through my artwork. I enjoy exhibiting my work annually and creating commissioned artwork.

One of the highlights of painting for me, is being able to share it with others. I am regularly involved in community led art projects. These include teaching art classes with adults and children during the Bealtaine festival, VEC (Vocational education College) and working with local ICA groups.  I am passionate about art being accessible to people of all ages and abilities. I have worked with children in Primary schools as an Artist and Special Needs Assistant which I have thoroughly enjoyed.

My other passion includes street theatre art work. I worked part time with Wexford Street Theatre Company Bui Bolg for 6 years making puppets, sets and props for festivals and events such as the St. Patrick’s Day Parade in Dublin and Electric Picnic Music Festival.

Artist Statement

My art is inspired by my environment and my love of nature. Living in the countryside in Wexford has shaped my work and forms the basis of the imagery. Often working outdoors, I allow the environment to weave the different elements of nature's energy, colours, textures and patterns together to create a deeper connectedness to it. Working outdoors also gives me the opportunity to engage with the public and these interactions will often allow me to experience and see the subject in a new light.

Sustainability and being aware of the materials I use for my artwork are very important to me. I am interested in continuing to research, develop and create bio colours, inks and charcoal for use in my work. Other mediums I use are mixed media collage, oil and watercolours. I would like my artistic practice to celebrate our beautiful world and to bring awareness to the challenges we face in continuing to build for the future and nurture our environment in a sustainable renewable way.
